My Chemical Romance este o formaţie rock americană fondată în 2001. Membrii formaţiei sunt Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, şi Bob Bryar, care l-a înlocuit pe toboşarul Matt Pelissier.
Începutul
Formaţia a fost fondată de Gerard Way şi fostul toboşar Matt Pelissier aproape o săptămână după atentatul de la 11 septembrie 2001. Gerard a fost martor la actul de terorism de la World Trade Center. Acest lucru i-a marcat viaţa astfel a decis să înfiinţeze o formaţie. Gerard a scris piesa "Skylines and Turnstiles" pentru a-şi exprimata trăirile lui sufleteşti despre 11 septembrie. După puţin timp, Ray Toro a fost întrebat dacă vrea să intre în formaţie pentru că în acel moment Gerard nu putea cânta cu vocea şi cu chitara în acelaşi timp.
Biografie
Infiintata in New Jersey, My Chemical Romance s-a lansat ca o trupa de pop/rock alternativ, cu puternice influente punk, fiind comparata cu Thursday sau, intr-o masura mai mica cu cei de la Cursive.
Numele a fost inspirat de catre autorul Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), si in ciuda faptului ca multe dintre cantecele lor sunt zgomotoase, repezi si agresive, My Chemical Romance sunt deasemenea melodici.
Grupul si-a inceput activitatea la inceputul anului 2000, atunci cand solistul Gerard Way si tobosarul Matt Pelissier au decis sa compuna impreuna.
Prima lor realizare s-a numit `Skylines and Turnstiles` (compozitie influentata de evenimentele din septembrie 2001, atunci cand Way a fost martor la prabusirea turnurilor WTC – pe atunci angajat la o firma de animatie).
Cei doi au fost incantati de rezultat, propunandu-i lui Ray Toro sa li se alature. Mai tarziu a cvintetul a fost completat de basistul Mikey Way (fratele mai mic al lui Gerard) si chitaristul Frank Iero.
In 2002 apare albumul de debut `I Brought You Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love` via Eyeball Records. Producatorul albumului a fost Geoff Rickly, solistul de la Thursday, ambii din New Jersey si aflati deasemenea sub egida Eyeball Records!
Din punct de vedere al textelor, primul material reprezinta o incursiune introspectiva si matura in probleme social-umane si nu numai.
Way a si declarat de altfel ca versurile compuse l-au ajutat sa isi depaseasca problemele personale (depresii, abuz de alcool si droguri etc).
In 2003, My Chemical Romance semneaza cu casa Reprise/Warner Bros.
In 2004 apare `Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge`. Extrem de popular, albumul a facut cunoscute single-uri precum `I'm Not Okay (I Promise)`, `Helena` sau `The Ghost of You`.
Pelissier paraseste trupa la mijlocul lui 2004, fiind inlocuit de tobosarul Bob Bryar. Urmeaza concerte de succes, alaturi de Story of the Year, Alkaline Trio, Used sau Green Day.
Discul `Life on the Murder Scene`, continand demo-uri, videoclipuri, interviuri etc, nu a facut decat sa anticipeze succesul mult mai maturului si `intunecatului` `The Black Parade`.
